DEPRESSION Answer to question 2. From the provided case study it can be said that Marie Malouf’s mental illness is mainly because of two reasons. One is her ineffective coping during depression and the next is her problem of social isolation. Sleeplessness and depression are very much inter-related. Scientist Gupta et al. have mentioned the depression effect on sleep in a research article. According to them sleep disruption is one of the most common depression feature, apparent itself as diminished the total time of sleep, recurrent arousing during sleep at night and rise in sleep latency(Gupta, Dahiya & Bhatia, 2009). Sleep schedule normally alters during depression and reported to be non-soothing. The scientists have examined to evaluate if the sleep patterns of the subjects differ between controls and depressed patients and between the subjects suffering with various depression severity. They have concluded that depression is linked with sleep problem, qualitative and quantitatively. Sleep complication takes place only after critical depression level is attained and despair of changeable rigorousness may selectively influence diverse sleep parameters. Therefore, with the support of this article it is justified to mention that sleeplessness has contributed to Marie’s mental illness. It is also seen that she has lack of time for her since her husband became unwell which also affect her psychological process and that have contributed to the condition of sleeplessness and subsequently depression. Social isolation affected Marie’s metal health condition this is because she has migrated to Australia from Lebanon. To cope up with her condition Marie might need interpreter, as being an Australian resident while migrated to Lebanon she might feel difficulty to communicate with the local healthcare professionals and the care provider should understand her needs and support her with an interpreter. This factor might help her to deal with the condition of social isolation. From the case study it is seen that her husband is ill and she has four little kids, so in her depressive condition there is no one to whom she can talk about her situation, hence to her hospital interpreter might be much more convenient option rather than the family members. Answer to question 3. Ethical and legal issues are associated with confidentiality issue and adherence to medication. Medication adherence means whether patients consume medicines as prescribed together with if patients continue to consume prescribed medication. In Marie’s case it is seen that she has been struggling hard to coping during depression. Therefore, a registered healthcare professional should evaluate her condition and assist her with medication adherence. The health care provider should respect their patient’s right to privacy. Marie should be assisted regarding how and the reason why instruction is communicated by the care providers (Nmc-uk.org, 2014).Marie has the right to admire her family and private life, her association and her home. This comes in the context of her depressive condition. Marie has the right to manage access to her own individual health information. The nurses should not discuss the matter associated with their patient care outside their clinical set up.
