Term Paper Proposal:
Your term paper proposal is due on March 5th by noon. It is due early in the semester in order to give the instructors time to provide you with feedback, and so that you can begin to formulate your ideas. Your proposal should be 2-3 pages in length. See below for more information on term paper topics.
The final paper will be due on April 1th at 12:00 PM and should be 15-17 pages in length. The paper should be typed, grammatically correct, clearly written, with no typographical or spelling errors. Use a 12-pitch type, double spaced format, Times New Roman font, and one- inch margins on each side. The content (including cover page, abstract, citations, and references) should be in APA format (see examples in Publications Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th Ed.) or HYPERLINK “http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/section/2/10/” http://owl.englisewAh.purdue.edu/owl/section/2/10/ for guidance). This should be an original paper, and not a paper you are doing or have done for another class. There are two options from which to choose: either a serious, scholarly term paper or an evaluation (post-occupancy evaluation) of a housing setting or an analysis of a housing program.
Term paper option: This option will require you to identify an interesting topic that is related to the area of housing and communities as they relate to older persons. Do not select a very general topic, such as “Housing for the Elderly.” The reading material presented in class may stimulate your interest in a subject that is only briefly discussed during the semester. This option provides you with the opportunity to research further a specific interesting idea. Specific, manageable themes, such as housing for the homeless, zoning impediments to accessory apartments, and regulating assisted living work best.
