Turn your attention to the instructional goal in Figure 3.7
: “Demonstrate effective discussion group leadership skills.” This goal,
identified in the Case Study section of Chapter Two , is now brought forward
for goal analysis in this chapter.
The goal is classified as an intellectual skill because it
requires learning concepts and rules as well as solving problems. The seven
steps identified to perform this goal and the planned sequence are included in
Figure 3.7 . There is a natural flow of tasks from left to right because the
product developed at each step becomes input for the subsequent one. This
step-by-step explanation of the general instructional goal makes subsequent
instructional analysis activities much easier. Readers interested in the school

writing composition that is included in Appendix B .
